Hey all! I'm Shade/@shadaras, one of the mods here. :)

I don't recall exactly who in my DW circle first pointed me towards Word of Honor, because it was like the first little pitter-patter of a rainstorm; a few little drops, and then the whole sky starts pouring. A lot of my friends, both on- and off-line, got into SHL, and so I've been talking about it a lot with them since the show started airing.

I fell in love with the show from the first time we saw Wen Kexing in all his Valley Master glory, and continued to love it because of Zhou Zishu's slow realization that maybe he wants to live, Chengling's determination, and also Ye Baiyi being a delightful enigmatic gremlin.

I watched the first 8 episodes of Word of Honor (all that was out at the time), decided to read Tian Ya Ke (and enjoyed it), saw ep10 and started writing fanfic (shadaras), then read Qi Ye while waiting for more episodes to air and fell massively and utterly in love with Beiyuan and Wu Xi (they are possibly my favorite characters in the novel-verse).

Xie'er is probably my favorite Word of Honor-specific character! He is beautiful and terrible and full of murderous schemes, and I want him to have good things in his life.

Favorite scenes include things like YBY and WKX fighting about wanting to see ZZS's chest, ZZS fucking up Prince Jin, and any time Xie'er is playing his pipa. :)

I think a few of you actually know me, but well. :)

I'm rekishi (Sam works, too) and I can finger point at alice_montrose for first telling me about WoH and shadaras for pointing me at the novel. I actually read TYK before watching a single episode of SHL, so I'm usually back-comparing. (Yes, I'm aware I shouldn't do that...)

I really loved the novel, because there where quite a few situations where my expectation where turned on its head and the whole thing was resolved much more reasonably (like the whole identify reveal, which was a complete non-issue and so pleasing!). Also the way ZZS was slowly but steadily ceding small quarters to WKX. That they're both adults and mostly written as adults who have done things and seen things and and both somehow managed to preserve some of their humanity and make the conscious decision to turn away. WKX outrageous flirting was also deliciously enjoyable.

The drama is fun, too! Though I'm not actually through yet so :) but the changes that were made are all nicely woven into the fabric of the narrative and Xie'er is definitely an improvement over the novel character.

Yes! Agreed! I love that it's a story about (re)finding yourself that's about adults who are learning how to live with themselves again and find meaning and joy together. <3

Nah, why shouldn't you do that? :) It's fun! I love seeing people talk about adaptation-based differences, and that's so much easier when you consume the entirety of a canon (either original or adaptation) before looking at the other.

Hi, I'm Dora, the other mod! I've been in Guardian fandom since 2018, so when another priest adaptation started taking off I naturally heard about it. Suddenly everyone was talking about Wenzhou! At some point I thought, well, why not check it out? Youtube was up to maybe episode 12 at the time. I loved Wen Kexing all in his unhinged Valley Master glory from the start, and I enjoyed the wuxia shenanigans a lot, but Wenzhou didn't really hit me in the shippy feels until I got to episode 15 - though now it works retroactively for the early episodes, too. *g* Somewhere in the wait for new episodes I also read the novel and loved it too.

I really adore both Wen Kexing and Zhou Zishu, and their mutual darkness and ruthlessnes and capacity for violence that contrasts so beautifully with how gentle and kind they can also both be. ♥ ♥ ♥

Two favourite scenes from the drama: the one in episode 10 where Wen Kexing kills Bai Wuchang (see my icon). And the fight with Ye Baiyi and its aftermath in episode 27.

My favourite scene from the novel is the one where they almost have sex the first time - where ZZS tells WKX he can't tell if he's serious because "I have not experienced many instances of sincerity over the course of my life, and cannot identify it." ♥ ♥ ♥

I hope to write fic eventually, but I haven't yet. These things take time to percolate for me.

Hi everyone! I started watching SHL the same week it started airing on Youtube after my my roommate heard about it on twitter, and was hooked pretty quickly. I didn't read TYK until the show was almost over (and I am currently reading Qi Ye now). I very much prefer the show, though the book was still fun. I like a lot of the characters, but Zhou Zishu the most. I haven't contributed much to the fandom yet, just one little ficlet and some flocked meta, but I've also got a 5500-word and steadily growing SHL meta/fic notes document, so...uhh...

TYK and SHL are very different, yeah. And I like them both in different ways, but I'm really glad about some of the changes. Like Xi Sang Gui - that was inspired. (She's one of my favourite secondary characters in the drama.)

Hello! I'm known as Oracle on Discord and Melusineofanjou on AO3. I fell in love with Word of Honor the moment that Wen KeXing showed his crazy eyes, so.. episode one? I'm also deeply fond of Xie'er and his little "but I want to do the murder" pout.

I have not yet finished my first watch of the drama, and I'm trying mightily to stay unspoiled, so you may not see me comment too much on postings, yet. Most recently seen episode: 23. I'm watching 2 per week.

I really like everything they did with the characters they massively changed for the drama, like Xie-er and Xi Sang Gui. It's impossible to imagine the drama without them. So good!

I watched WOH over the course of this month, after not really planning on it before. But, I tried it and I fell super hard. Morally grey murder husbands who are wildly in love. ♥ Fannish creations, if you will call them that, are posted on geckoholic (fic) and bl00dredskies (icons).

Hi all, I'm Alice! I was nudged in WOH's direction by theladymoon, and it came to save me from a dark hole I was sinking in. I did not expect to get hooked on this show as much as I did, but addicted to the mountain air I am now. It's nice on the mountain, I don't want to leave.

I read the book, too, so that was fun!

I'll... try to write at least one piece of fanfic, if the right plot bunny bites (my writing is rusty). And I promised people icons, so that will happen at some point.

I usually never watch a drama while it's still airing, so SHL was an anomaly for me! I didn't go in with any expectations but ended up devouring it all in under a week (watching ~8 episodes a day). WKX is my favorite. (I can't handle Gong Jun in anything else thanks to my secondhand embarrassment squick so I consider this a miracle!) Gu Xiang and Cao Weining also have my whole heart.

I'm currently just over halfway through a rewatch with a couple friends on discord.

I'm personally of the "SHL is an expanded version of TYK canon" camp and hope book fans and drama fans can exist in harmony! ♥

That's a very fast binge-watch speed, but I completely understand how easy is to do that if you have the time—I watched the back half of the show at that speed too. :)

I've never seen Gong Jun in anything else, so the idea that he usually does roles that bring about embarrassment squick is surprising to me; that's a very different feel than WKX! :)

I also want book and drama folk to coexist! I love both of them, in rather different ways. <3

Hi, everyone! I'm Julia :D I first heard about WoH from one of my fandom friends who is obsessed with it and wanted me to watch it. It took me two months, but I finally carved some time and managed to binge it over a long weekend \o/

I really enjoyed the first 5 episodes or so, but it was with the unmasking in Episode 6 and Wen Kexing resting his chin on his hand while staring at Zhou Zishu that really did it for me. My favorite episodes are the middle/second half ones (Episodes 17-24) because we learn so much about everything and there are so many hugs! I've also finished reading the novel this week and am still processing how different it is from the show and how much I love how ruthless Wen Kexing and Zhou Zishu are in it :')

I think I first heard about either via bonibaru's posts or vids people made for vexercises. I was delighted to see how much Wen Kexing was flirting from the get-go! Besides Wen Kexing and Zhou Zishu, I'm really fond of Gu Xiang, Luo Fumeng, and Liu Qianqiao. Two of my favorite scenes are ZZS and WKX's fight with YBY in episode 27 and WKX rescuing ZZS in episode 31.

Fanworks-wise, I mostly make fanvids (all of the ones I've posted can be found here).

I’ve been in fandom in general for a while, but Tianya Ke and Shanhe Ling brought me out of perpetual lurkdom. I have a pretty severe case of WenZhou brainrot.🤣 I read Tianya Ke first, then Qi Ye, so those are my preferred canons, but Zhang Zhehan and Gong Jun, plus cast and crew, sold Shanhe Ling to me pretty much from Episode 1. Though I prefer the dynamic that Kexing and Zishu had in the novel, I much preferred the complexity given to the female characters in the drama, so I kind of mix and match canons.

I have too many book canon favorite scenes, but for drama canon, I really loved the grave scene during the 4 Sages debacle and the scene of Kexing drunk-hugging Zishu. ZZH’s expression of pain during that scene was heart-wrenching.

Yay, make yourself at home! I love both canons in different ways, but yeah, the SHL women are great. Everything about the Ghost Valley women is such a fantastic addition - for that, I 100% prefer the drama too.

I fell into SHL via owlpockets who I guess was paying me back for inflicting CQL on her! I've seen the show (just finished a rewatch, even), read the book, tried to read Qi Ye but more or less given up 1/3 of the way through, and I am 100% trying not to write fic about Wen Kexing and his miserable Ghost Valley childhood because I don't have time for that! The show has been an utter delight in the past couple of months. I've always loved gen fic and talking about things I'm enjoying with other people, so I'm stoked for this comm.

I don't have a firm preference between SHL and TYK; SHL is such a clear labour of love that I find it impossible to hold its flaws against it for very long (episode 31 you have some of the best scenes but you are clearly the reanimated corpse of, like, 3 episodes' worth of material), but I also really like the lower stakes of TYK and how they play out at the ending, the mixture of tenderness and viciousness that really characterises Wenzhou...

I independently got myself into The Untamed in Sept 2019 and have been enjoying revivifying my fannish spaces. I’ve spent the last year and three quarters watching vaguely tangentially related media in ever widening circles (documented on my journal, if you’re curious).

I tried holding back when Word of Honor came out because I prefer to watch completed works... but then Avenue X and others were whispering that it was so scandalous that it might get taken down, so I hurried to start. I still wish I’d waited, perhaps, but that’s just because we were lucky enough that it hasn’t been retroactively censored.

Love that they are adults. Love that they are competent. Love that they still have demons with claws in their guts. Love the abundance of deadly female peripheral characters. Love the way it stands in commentary with/to a long line of tropes and genre conventions.

And I unironically love how they did their product placement and highly recommend the Wolong Daily Nuts to you.

I’ve also enjoyed using it as another pivot point around which to find other shows. I’d already seen one other show from Gong Jun, but Zhang Zhehan’s body of work has been completely new and so far been delighting me.

I’ve started reading Tian Ya Ke and stalled out because I felt obligated to get through more of my open tags of fanfic. But hardly a chapter went by where I wasn’t sending screenshots to a friend exclaiming about how bold and/or funny it was.

hello all! i am kep, coming here from the adults-only shl discord. i remade my dreamwidth, so apologies that it's so bare... as soon as i can think of things to put on it, i will! i never got properly into dreamwidth, in part because back when livejournal was a thing, i mostly lurked. i joined fandom in '07, but i didn't really stop lurking until '12, and by that point tumblr was my mainstay. still, it's lovely to be here! i really enjoy the slower pace of this kind of blogging/community, so i hope to be fairly active here.

Hello! I'm a recent addition to the SHL mountain and very happy to find a Dreamwidth comm already up and running :3
I learned about SHL from seeing various people on twitter get into it, and then geckoholic made a post reccing it and that tipped me over the edge into giving it a try. I watched the whole series in a week and have been stuck on the mountain ever since :D
I love WenZhou so much - the way they look at each other, the way they know each other and gradually open up and be vulnerable with each other... did I mention the way they look at each other???! I love them!!
(Honourable mention to everyone's fav immortal Ye Baiyi what a champion! I hope he gets all the noodles he can eat!)

Your other fandoms: The only other thing I'm really into at the moment is Xicheng from MDZS/CQL. It's been my primary/only fandom for 18 months and I'm not ready to move on yet :3
I do also play FFXIV and I make the occasional post about that too.

Hello! I'm Myro/ bladedweapons. I've been deep in the SHL/TYK/QY pit for a couple months now, after some friends got into it and then my twitter and tumblr started suddenly showing a new and unknown pair of sword husbands, besides the ones previously taking up 100% of my dash/tl. (This incidentally, spoiled WKX's id for me entirely, although to be fair I look for spoilers anyway.) I have found some of you already via various other platforms, but only just came across this and have been enjoying the TYK reread. Related to that, I have never used dreamwidth before, so apologies in advance for if/when I do something the wrong way while trying to figure out the interface.
I love all three SHL, TYK, and QY, but I particularly like the heavy angst that ZZS has in SHL, so that has been occupying my mind the most(and fic-writing plans—I'm trying to write a prequel explaining how ZZS ended up where he is in ep. 1) more recently. Although I also want to write some Qi Ye fic at some point...

What you post about: A mixture of fandom and real life! I don't duplicate posts, so there's different content everywhere. AO3 obviously gets whatever fic I write. Twitter gets lots of RL plus some fannish squee. I don't use Tumblr terribly much at the moment. DW gets longform posts and anything I want to make not-public. At the moment, I appear to be working through lots of angst about acquiring an RPF ship (you know the one).

Your other fandoms: Tolkien for the most part, it's the fandom of my heart. I've only been into C-ent as a whole for a couple of months so far. I also enjoy the MCU, Doctor Who, Star Wars, Star Trek, The Untamed, Heaven Official's Blessing, and many more fandoms.

Post frequency: Uh. Random? I can go weeks without updating and then post several days in a row.

Ha, I've just realised I never said how I found the show! After I watched (and loved) The Untamed, I asked on FFA if there were more shows on Netflix that were similar and got wildly recommended to watch Word of Honor. I was initially like "this doesn't sound quite as iddy a scenario as The Untamed did, for me, but I'll give it a try." Six episodes in, I was eating my words because good lord, I love this, I'm gonna eat it up with a spoon. And it just kept getting better and better and BETTER and then I was watching behind-the-scenes stuff and just utterly revelling in their chemistry.

And now I'm just constantly on my Wenzhou and Junzhe bullshit. I replaced my phone's lock screen with a picture of them! The last time I changed my phone's lock screen, it was to art that I personally commissioned. I can't stop thinking about them.

Their chemistry is absolutely lethal and will win over anyone who has a heart not made out of stone, I swear it.

Hi, I‘m mekare. I started getting into cdramas with Guardian because so many people on my flist posted about it. Next I casually started some other dramas but did not finish them (mostly focused on the Guardian actors’ other projects). Then I fell into Nirvana in Fire and then took a long break because seriously - which other drama could compare? I also took over the nirvana_in_fire community with other mods. Detective L was the only other drama I watched until the end.
I had heard about WOH peripherally earlier this year but it was goss posting her squee about it that reminded me to check it out this week. I am not even halfway through but I love it!

Hi, I'm Dreamy (Dee works too) and I'm a little late to the party, but very happy I found this comm.

I had watched and loved The Untamed earlier this year and kept talking about it when a friend recommended Word of Honor saying I might like that too. As it turned out they were absolutely right. It took me a few episodes to get into it, but I fell in love with Wen Kexing in his pretty robes and his valley master glory more or less right from the beginning. A few episodes later I was completely hooked and then watched the whole series rather quickly and read the novel, both of which I enjoyed very much.

Whilst Wen Kexing is and remains my first love, I love Zhou Zishu very much as well; they are both deeply flawed and have been through things, there is darkness in them and yet also so much goodness. They are absolutely perfect for each other.
I'm also fond of Ye Baiyi. His bickering with Wen Kexing is so much fun. Plus sometimes it feels like he's the only reasonable one in the whole madness.

Favourite Scenes include Wen Kexing in full valley master mode, the Wenzhou dates in Yueyang and the whole sequence of episodes at Siji Manor.

Hello! I'm Minna, she/her pronouns please. I got into this fandom in October of last year hot on the heels of finishing CQL, because a friend grabbed me up and recced it at just the right time. I still mostly know SHL, but I'm working my way through QY.

It's really tough to choose a favorite, even if you set aside Wenzhou. Something that really draws me to make stuff for this fandom is how many fascinating smaller characters there are in the cast. However, it seems my heart is pretty firmly locked on Siji Manor feelings, no matter how much I would love to dig into the Department of the Unfaithful.

Hi everyone!

It started, as usual, by seeing pretty gifsets on tumblr and then I started watching on youtube as the episodes aired. And oh.my.god it has been so long since a show had me in such a chokehold.
I absolutely adored the characters, wenzhou has become my ultimate comfort ship and that episode had be bawling in my lunch break at work.
I then read the book, and found the adaptation fun and clever in its own way, although what I wouldn't give to have the hanky panky drawing scene!

I'm mostly a lurker, though I have doodled and written some.
I'm brand new to dw, so I'm still not quite sure how to go about things here, but I'll also be posting here for sure!
