Plot twist turns out ZZS did rear it but in typical YBY fashion it only said something like "kids these days are SO overdramatic" and how was he supposed to know what that meant?

Right? He SO would. And then he'd be all I don't see what's unclear about this letter. "See, I used plural, it clearly meant both of you."
