I just finished Forlorn Shadows Soaring Home by
ArgentInferno and wanted to rec it.
Pairing: Wen Kexing/Zhou Zishu
Length: 99,991 words
Notes on content: Violence, torture
Author's summary: Wen Kexing is an expert in the darker side of human emotions. Jealousy, lust, greed… he can play them like he plays his xiao. But, with all his convoluted plans, he makes one simple error – he forgets to account for love, loyalty, and grief. After seeing Wen Kexing fall, Zhou Zishu has only one desire – avenge his soulmate before joining him in death. So, with the nails wrenched from his body, he turns all his skills as an assassin to that task.
Wen Kexing really should have expected that.
This a well-plotted canon-adjacent AU in which Zhou Zishu doesn't wait until the Hero's conference to exact revenge on WKX's behalf, which leads to events unfolding slightly different than in canon. It is well-written with excellent characterisations and despite the satisfying ending, I was almost sad when I finished it because I love it this much.
