WOH fandom ramble on violence and choices

So, with my admittedly limited reading experience, I think I‘ve noticed a tendency of authors to pile on the hurt on Zhou Zishu, while Wen Kexing gets off relatively lightly. Is that something you have noticed in the fics you read or write? Considering that (at least in my headcanon) Wen Kexing became violent because he had to survive while Zhou Zishu had a lot more freedom of choice I can understand not wanting to make WKX suffer even more (at least not physically).
I know that some writers like to hurt their favourites the most, so it might also just be Zhou Zishu being more popular? I don‘t know enough about the fandom to gauge whether that is true or not.
Or it could just be because he suffers so prettily on the show while Wen Kexing is shown being hurt as a very young child in the flashback and people are reluctant to add to that?

ETA: Regarding choices, simply due to their age, Wen Kexing had a LOT less choice than Zhou Zishu, plus choice at all was basically taken away from him. I think this is part of why I enjoy seeing him wield power so much, because he had to fight tooth and nail to acquire it and needs it to feel safe.
