Picspam: Wen Kexing costume inspired skirt!
So, I was obsessed with this costume:

And then! I saw a fabric that was of a similar colour and I just had to get it! I'm also learning how to sew so I thought it'd be the perfect exercise to learn how to do a skirt!
More under a read more because it's going to be a long post with a bunch of photos
Here's the fabric blue-petrol fabric (as they called it) and I found a great red lining and zipper!
Apologies in advance on the colours as it was really hard to get a photo with the actual colour, it usually looks like a bright blue, but it actually looks very close to the costume colour!
I had already made a circle skirt once, and this time I wanted to try a gathered skirt with loads of fabric as I love flowy skirts. My bad, because the blue fabric wasn't the best for it, too thick. I noticed, but felt like trying if even just to get a hang of the techniques.
So my idea was gathered skirt in 3 parts + waistband+ pockets + two slits for the red lining to show

(pls ignore the top part, I found a YT video but the tutorial is entirely in korean and there's basically no measurements, so it's an adventure for another day)
So then it was off to cutting and sewing it together, and oh boy, if it wasn't a comedy of errors. Great learning experience though!

So its about knee lenght, but as expected the gathered effect doesn't really work with this fabric so the split isn't very visible and I put the pockets too low.
But I've been wearing it at home, and it's so comfortable! Just not...me approved to wear out in the street. I'm definitely looking for a lighter outer fabric to get the flowy skirt of my dreams :D
I don't have a big mirror to get a full photo, but here's what I could snap:

and now with the lining showing!

So a very cool learning experience, definitely need to use the right fabrics though, rookie mistake #1.
Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk!(☞゚ヮ゚)☞

I'm glad you have it for nice chill at-home times; I hope that this learning experience means your next attempt is even better!

I sure had fun with it, and now I'm bursting with ideas to try on something else. It has become part of my work from home uniform now ╰(*°▽°*)╯

And, yeah, wearing it with one layer tucked up is very RennFaire Cute (TM).
I love how you matched the Wen Kexing colors, but if the length is keeping you from wearing it outside, a flounce at the bottom in black (assuming you used all the fabric you bought) could work.
I love it!

The slits I made didn't work as intended so I tuck it in to show the red ahah.
So, the lenght is okay, I could probably even go shorter with it, I just don't like all the technical stuff I messed up? From afar it's not very noticeable but the waistband is incredibly uneven and bulky in places (i didn't bother looking for interlining, oops) and the slit/pockets didn't really work out.
I'm still very in love with it though, have been wearing it everyday!
I still have some of the fabric left, I'll try to make a simple top to go with it :)

I'm such a sucker for anything teal coloured. XD
