[event] current and upcoming fandom projects

I didn’t see any posts that gave a good overview of what’s going on now in fandom, so I thought I’d start one. (Maybe this could be even be a recurring bi-weekly or monthly post to signal-boost projects?)

I’ll list the projects by their sign-up dates; if they have the same sign-up dates, then the projects will be listed by their expected deadlines. If I missed anything, please feel free to leave a link to the project in the comments, and I will add it in as soon as I can. Thanks!

• The SHL Big Bang opened up sign-ups on May 17th and is expected to conclude October 24th. Its main organizational hub is on Tumblr, but there is a Discord community associated with it that those involved are invited to join.


• Four Seasons, a Word of Honor Zine is zine for mainland Chinese danmei drama Word of Honor. It opened applications for contributors on June 6th and is expected to accept its last fan-work on August 22nd. Its main social media account is on Tumblr.


• Siji Hua, a Word of Honor Zine is "a for charity zine emphasizing the imagery of flowers and use of poetry in Word of Honor" (described by its carrd info). It opened moderator applications on June 6th, will open contributor applications on August 15th, and will open pre-orders on March 15th, 2022.


• The SHL Women’s Week is a prompts challenge for fic, art, etc; it is running from June 14th to June 20th. Prompts, FAQ, and other information can be found on its Tumblr, where you can also find other associated social media links. To clarify, each day has two prompts: one that’s AU, one that’s a catch-all / applicable to anything.

Oh, awesome, thank you for bringing these here! I did see the Big Bang mentioned somewhere, but not the rest. Yay for a SHL Women's Week in particular, though I won't participate since the prompts are all AUs and that's not my thing.

I actually asked the people running the prompts, and they said we could do canon-verse. Each day of the week has two prompts: one AU/AU-canon divergence, while the other is meant to be a catch-all / applicable to anything.

Unfortunately, I’m doing the BB, with a few other concurrent projects, so I can’t participate. BUT I WANT EVERYONE ELSE TO.

I hope that you get a chance to! I was personally looking at the rain prompt because LQQ looked gorgeous in the rain, and I might still do it if I can squeeze something in between the other things, tbh.

To be perfectly honest, I think the lack of a prior round-up post is because neither Dora nor I actively participate in fandom on tumblr or twitter. xD; Since that's where a lot of fannish events currently seem to be most advertised, we're likely to miss them!

If you're willing to do a round-up of events periodically (once a month seems reasonable to me?), that's absolutely fantastic and I am thrilled to hear about them. <3

I live in a very tightly curated fandom space on Twitter and Tumblr, for I think likely the same reason I think a lot of fans choose to stay lurking, so I get not actively participating.

And, yeah, I can update the posts monthly if something new comes up! I don’t mind. This is honestly just part of my campaign to get more fic.

I woke up today ready to make a post hyping SHL Women Week, but you're already on it lol! I like the idea of having a regular round-up post for events here.

I committed too much to other things before I knew about SHL Women’s Week, so I hope that SHL Women’s Week becomes a regular occurrence, so I can participate later fully! If not, I’m glad to see there seems to be growing appreciation for the women in SHL, which might translate to more fan-works in the future focused on them.

I really hope it does get some traction. There are so many great women to appreciate in this series and not nearly enough fic about them yet.

Yeah, my currently plan is to write drabbles or ficlets for a several of the prompts, but I'm also expecting to be super busy next week so it might not be as much as I'd like. We'll see!
